# How to Create a New Deduction Item in Timeslip to Deduct from Gross Pay

1. If you are looking to create a deduction item within the Timeslip itself, go to the **"Timeslip"** module and open a timeslip that is associated with an employee.

2. Select the **"Scheduled Earnings and Deductions"** tab at the top to add a new deduction or edit an existing one.

3. When creating or editing a deduction, you will select the deduction type and then define how it should behave for that specific employee.

4. Once the desired selections and configurations have been made for the deduction hit update at the bottom and you will see your newly added or edited deduction in the **"Scheduled Earnings/Deductions"** tab of the Timeslip.
